Eye strain

With so many of us using computers at work, computer eye strain has become a major job-related complaint. Studies show that eye strain and other bothersome visual symptoms occur in 50 to 90 percent of computer workers.

These problems can cause physical fatigue, decreased productivity and increased numbers of work errors.


  • Dry, gritty/scratchy, or filmy feeling in the eyes
  • Burning or itching in the eyes
  • Redness of the eyes
  • Blurred vision
  • A sensation of having a foreign body in the eyes
  • Light sensitivity

  • Long-term use of computer
  • Working or reading under insufficient amount of light
  • Use of contact lenses for long hours
  • Abnormal tear quantity 

  • Eat foods or take supplements that are rich in multinutrients, antioxidants such as vitamin C, E, Zinc, and flavanoids, and natural cartenoids.
  • Reduce the amount of red meat in a diet.
  • Include foods high in omega-3 fatty acids in your diet
 
  • Take five-minute breaks every hour by looking off into the distance and looking away from the computer monitor.
  • Keep some distance from a book while reading or working
  •  Do not wear contact lenses it your eyes are irritated
  • Shorten the time of wearing contact lenses, not more than 8 hours a day
  • Blinking eyes more to add moist with tears to eyes
  • Just close your eyes for a few minutes and cover it with warm hand or warm towel when your eyes feel tired
  • Wear a good pair of sunglasses, specifically labeled as blocking out as much ultraviolet light as possible.
