Jili, the fruit of Tribulus terrestris, is a famous traditional Chinese medicine which had been recorded centuries ago. It is described as a highly valuable medicinal herb used to promote detoxification in liver and for the treatment of acute conjunctivitis, headache and vertigo. Tribulus terrestris is also reported to have antimicrobial, anti-hypertension, diuretic, and to stimulate spermatogenesis and libido. Alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids and carbohydrates have been isolated from this plant. Furthermore, crude extract of the dried fruit of Tribulus terrestris showed significant anti-inflammatory activities.
